Gen Z, we need to talk about your green skills gap 🌿💼Recent research from LinkedIn has uncovered a concerning disparity between your environmental consciousness and your preparedness for green jobs. Let's break it down:• Today, only 1 in 20 Gen Zers have the green skills for climate challenges• By 2030, you'll be a third of the workforce as companies race to meet emissions targets• This isn't just about filling jobs—it's about reshaping entire industriesBut the green skills gap isn't a roadblock; it's a launchpad. Here's what I predict:1. A surge in green upskilling programs, both in-house and through #edtech2. The rise of "green translators"—professionals who bridge traditional roles with sustainability3. A boom in green entrepreneurship and #INTRApreneurship as Gen Z creates the jobs they want to seeThe future of work isn't just green—it's regenerative. You won't just reduce harm; you'll actively heal our planet through your careers. So, let's think big:❓What extinct jobs might come back in a green economy? (Blacksmiths for wind turbines, anyone?)❓How might AI and green skills intersect to create entirely new career paths?❓What wild ideas do you have for solving climate issues through your future work?Let's brainstorm the careers of 2030 and beyond! 🌍💡#greenjobs #genZ #sustainability #careerdevelopment #climateaction #greenskillshttps://lnkd.in/gsHmJpx8.

This has got to be one of the most unfair statements I have ever read in a green jobs article:🔥 “At the current rate of progress, businesses risk failing their net-zero targets because of inexperienced Gen Zers” 🔥 Um, no: businesses risk failing their net-zero targets because they rarely have any interest in the kind of genuine business transformation required to achieve net-zero 🙄 Anyway, to the task of enabling Gen Z with green skills, the article urges Gen Zers to “take matters into their own hands and start upskilling themselves”. This I agree with.👉 The article points to the need for businesses to upskill the workforce, which is true, but for some reason ignores the other important part of the puzzle: education. UNIVERSITIES should be stepping up and doing more here: note that even when “climate” is on the curriculum, it tends to be about the SUBJECT of climate (or sustainability) rather than SKILLS.Given that the higher education system generally does a poor job of teaching skills, I’d recommend all undergrad and postgrad students take this into their own hands and find a way to learn at least one practical green skill (in the same way that I would encourage them all to take the Google Data Analytics and Project Management certificates, which will be much more useful than a module on something like the Semantics of Taylor Swift in a Disembodied World) 💚 🌍 https://lnkd.in/e-SxgkCc

🌿 61% of Gen Z workers want a green job in the next five years. But here's the kicker: only 1 in 20 actually have the green skills needed. Talk about a skills gap, right? It's wild to think that while 3 out of 4 Gen Zers are super worried about climate change, less than 20% see a clear path to green careers. But here's some good news—green jobs are growing like crazy! Almost twice as fast as other jobs requiring green skills. It's not just on Gen Z. We as employers need to step up too. We've got to show how different roles can make a climate impact, not just the obvious sustainability positions. So, I'm curious—how is your company helping bridge this green skills gap? Are you offering training? Highlighting the sustainability aspects of different roles? Let's chat about it in the comments!Remember, tackling climate change isn't just for "green" jobs anymore. We all have a part to play. Let's help Gen Z (and everyone else) get the skills they need to make a difference! 💚🌍What do you think? Is this hitting home for anyone else?#greenjobs #genz #sustainability #climateaction #workforceSkills #workforcedevelopment #cleanenergyhttps://lnkd.in/g6bTBfx5

If you’re under 30, there’s a good chance that you want your next job to focus on climate change. However, a new analysis from LinkedIn finds that only one in 20 Gen Z workers have the green skills needed for those jobs, andfew know where to begin. The majority of Gen Z workers say that a lack of green jobs is the biggest barrier they face. But that’s a misperception: The number of green jobs is quickly growing, from renewable energy to roles at climate tech startups. In a previous report, LinkedIn found that the number of green jobs was growing almost twice as quickly as the overall number of workers with green skills.

"61% of Gen Z workers want to get a green job within the next five years, but fewer than 20% say that they see a clear path to getting those jobs"This fall, I'm teaching an MBA course on Sustainable Business Strategy. What skills do you think MBA grads need to get green jobs? And what would you want an MBA hire to know about sustainability to help your organization achieve its climate-related goals or support broader ESG initiatives? Would love your input to help me create a curriculum for this course that's both meaningful and practical. How can I best prepare these students for the realities of the current job market and the imperative to do business more sustainably?https://lnkd.in/ednfUCRe

💼 🌱 Sustainable work and green skills are crucial for the future of the labor landscape. They not only represent a vital response to climate change, they are also an investment in more enduring and resilient jobs.👉 The report 'LinkedIn’s Global Green Skills Report 2023' highlights a 22.4% increase in green jobs between 2022 and 2023. However, there is still work to be done regarding the acquisition of green skills and knowledge, spanning from the manufacturing and design of sustainable packaging to the responsible management of businesses.Furthermore, investment in ecological competencies is essential to ensure more enduring and resilient employment. These skills have not only been in demand during periods of economic uncertainty, but they will also be indispensable in the jobs of tomorrow. At GM, we believe in sustainable employment, and we promote an activity based on the circular economy that benefits both the planet and the people who contribute to it. ♻️🚀Would you like to learn more about green talent and how it can improve our future? Gen Z want to learn skills to work on climate. But they don't necessarily know where to start. Fewer than 20% say they see a clear path to a climate job. One way to grow this number is to widen the aperture of how we think of a green job. As Adele Peters writes in her Fast Company article, "for the world to succeed in decarbonizing the entire economy, arguably every job shouldbe considered a green job."If Gen Z is only thinking about a green job as one that is in renewable energy production or has "sustainability" in the title, they're going to miss many of the in-demand jobs that can have a sizable positive climate impact. Green skills are increasingly relevant in these jobs that we haven't traditionally thought of as green. Showing Gen Z how these jobs contribute to climate action will help Gen Z know what skills to learn to deliver impact and access economic opportunity. #climatechange #GenZ #climateaction #greenjobs #greenskills
