Unique animals with exceptional and odd traits and habits reside worldwide. Each animal is fascinating, but some are more fascinating than others.

The animal’s appearance, behavior, reproduction, or a combination of those features may pique people’s interest.

1. Tufted Deer

The tufted deer (Elaphodus cephalophus) is a deer species native to central China and northeastern Myanmar on the East Asian continent. It’s a little deer with a tuft of hair on its forehead that gave it its name.

One of the unique features of the tufted deer is its fang-like teeth, which are unique to males and give this type of deer a prehistoric appearance similar to that of the Muntjac.

Territorial males use these protruding teeth, or fangs, to battle amongst themselves over breeding partners or territory.

The tails and bodies of these shy animals are dark browns with a white underbelly. They like to be active in the dark since it allows them to blend in better with their surroundings.

2. Thorny Dragon

The Thorny Dragon is a lizard species belonging to the Agamidae family with the scientific name Moloch horridus.

Thorny devil, Mountain devil, Thorny lizard, and Moloch are some of the names given to the Thorny dragon.

It is the only animal that belongs to the Moloch genus. Moloch is the name of a deity from the ancient Near East who means “horrible beast.”

3. Proboscis Monkey

Probosci’s monkeys are found only in Borneo’s jungles, never leaving the island’s rivers, coastal mangroves, or swamps.

The Proboscis Monkey is well-known for its massive snout. Male probosci’s monkeys utilize their fleshy, pendulous noses to attract mates, which may look strange.

These enormous organs produce an echo chamber in which the monkey’s call is amplified, impressing females and scaring rival males.

4. Okapi

The okapi, sometimes known as the “forest giraffe,” resembles a mix between a deer and a zebra and dwells among lush plants. It is, however, the giraffe’s only living relative.

The okapi is only found in the wild in the Ituri Rainforest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and it possesses thick, oily fur that helps it stay dry in the rain. It also contains scent glands on the bottoms of its hooves, which aid in marking its territory.

The okapi’s small horns are covered in skin save for the tips. Unlike males, most females have knobby bumps instead of horns.

They may have the appearance of a fox and the name of a wolf, but they lack many of the features of these animals, such as diet. They are more closely related to the South American bush dog.

7. Fossa

The fossa, a mongoose relative, is only found in the forests of Madagascar, an African island in the Indian Ocean.

From nose to tail tip, they can grow to be 6 feet long and weigh up to 26 pounds. Although it shares many characteristics with cats, it is more closely linked to the Mongoose. The fossa can hunt at any time and is only found in woodland areas.

8. Japanese Spider Crab

Japanese spider crabs may resemble creatures from a 1950s science fiction film, yet they are gentle giants.

As its name indicates, the Japanese spider crab exists in the waters surrounding Japan. Although it is challenging to catch, this crab is considered a delicacy in many parts of Japan.

9. Pacu Fish

The fish, which is assumed to be a South American pacu, is famous for its teeth, which eerily resemble human teeth.

Despite their piranha connection, Pacus eat plants predominantly and are generally considered harmless to humans.

However, they eat other fish on occasion and may thus outcompete native species or spread parasites or diseases.

The slow loris is a nocturnal Southeast Asian species. The loris’ teeth are actually highly deadly, despite their cuteness.

Do you know what a liger is? It’s the result of mating between a male lion and a female tiger. There’s also the tigon, which has a mother who is a lion and a father who is a tiger.
